NAMS is very pleased to announce its Awards Programs designed to encourage and support outstanding individuals at the start of their professional careers and to recognize those that have made significant contributions to the advancement of membrane technology. Browse available awards below.

  • Alan S. Michaels Award for Innovation in Membrane Science and Technology

    This award honors the late Dr. Michaels and recognizes individuals who have made outstanding innovations and/or exceptional lifetime contributions to membrane science and technology.

  • Permeance Prize for Mid-Career Excellence

    The Permeance Prize is presented annually to an outstanding individual in the middle of their professional careers. The Award recognizes and encourages individual contributions in the field of membrane science and technology, and service to NAMS.

  • Education innovation Fellowship

    NAMS is charged with ushering in the next generation of membrane scientists. The NAMS education innovation fellowship supports innovators in membrane education, introducing membranes into the curriculum at colleges and universities.

  • Elias Klein founders’ Travel award

    The Elias Klein Founders’ Travel Supplement supports students needing financial assistance for attending the NAMS meeting to present their research. This award program is named in honor of Elias Klein, whose vision and spirit guided the founding of NAMS in 1985.

  • NAMS Fellows

    NAMS Fellows are elected for significant contributions in both service to NAMS and professional accomplishments in the membrane field. The contribution in one of these areas shall be outstanding, with significant contribution in both areas necessary for this award.

  • Young Membrane Scientist Awards

    The Young Membrane Scientist Awards will be presented annually to outstanding individuals who are starting their professional careers in membrane science and technology. This award is open to all Membrane Scientists within 5 years after completion of the PhD degree.

  • Student Fellowship Awards

    The NAMS Student Fellowship Awards are presented annually to outstanding graduate students in the membrane science and technology area. Recipients will give an oral presentation during a special award session at the 2025 Annual Meeting.
